Well SAI is software that works best with a tablet, but without a tablet you can change the settings a bit.
Go to Others > Options, make sure the mouse is selected there and play around with the drift. That'll make your mouse work a bit like a tablet with pen pressure, so search for the right amount of drift untill it makes the colors flow into eachother nicely ^^

Okay, thank you ^^ I'll play around with it to make it work and hopefully it wont take too long to save up for a tablet ^^

I had water brush not just water color. The next time I used Sai, it was gone. I uninstalled and reinstalled many times but it is still gone. Anyone know how to get it back. I need it for backgrounds and blending.

You should, but indeed only when you're in the mood ^^
Haha I can imagine that yes, it's more touchable ^^
You should try to colour some trad drawings with the water tool O,O I'm sure that can give some lovely results ^^

well it works almost the same as SAI but than without the stabilizer and water brush xD For blur, dodge, other effects and transparency you can better use photoshop 8P

I'm afraid it won't go to well though x3

Haha x3 Like everything x3
Should I only use it for fur?
I normally shade with the blurtool, so I'm guessing this isn't that different... I'm horrible at shading though x3

Bimmerd Featured By Owner Apr 9, 2012   Digital Artist
Of course not, you can use it for skin, for scales for everything (but than of course you won't create hairs with thin brushes xD)
Shading with the blur tool is A LOT different. NEVER shade with the blur tool, really NEVER do that. The water tool is more like a smudge tool. You use it to blend colours while blurtool should only be used to show depth in a drawing D8

Hmm.. maybe that's why my shading sucks xD
Ahhh... that's a lot harder o.O
Good reason to get out my tablet again though x3 Have been drawing without a tablet for the past couple of months xD
There's still a lot I need to learn xD
Wish somebody could help me.. But, as I don't even have it as a class... x3

Well no-one in RL can probably learn you how to draw digital. You should learn it yourself. Try some new stuff, use different brushes to see the different results, work with opacity, etc.
You should really try some stuff out with the water brush :D

Hmm, I notice that this technique makes you lose quite some contrast on the way. From something with more dynamic and bold shading, after using the brush it's like it all falls back into a much more drab monotone.

I suppose that can be fixed by starting off with darker shades and sharper highlights?

:iconbimmerd:
Bimmerd Featured By Owner Apr 9, 2012   Digital Artist
You can use darker colours for shading indeed to make it look more dynamic. Same with highlights (but than a lighter colour of course xD)

With more layers of shading and highlights it'll also look better.
You just have to try out what works for you.
